One dude and a school full of chicks
Philly.Com Whether eating in the dining hall, strolling across campus, chilling in his dorm room, or rehearsing for a musical, James Merriam is, no doubt about it, an oddity at Bryn Mawr College - and not because of his long, persimmon-hued hair. Merriam, 19, known around Bryn Mawr College as "Ginger Jesus" for his flowing locks and scraggly beard, possesses something that no other student living on campus has: a Y chromosome. Since September, he has been the only young man rooming at the women's school, a 6-foot, 3-inch sluice for testosterone amid the fluctuating hormones of 1,300 females. Not that Merriam is a player, but he briefly dated a "Bryn Mawrter" in the fall. He's a slim, soft-spoken, liberal-leaning young man from Vermont who arrived at Haverford College as a freshman last school year."I was disappointed," he said. Not only did he have serious roommate problems, he found that the liberal Quaker campus wasn't quite as liberal as he had hoped. He also found the food and facilities to be less than stellar. Since students at the two colleges can enroll in classes and activities at the other school, Merriam began spending more time at Bryn Mawr.
You have to applaud the brass on this guy. Not creativity or brilliance because every guy since 1900 has thought "what if I get into an all girls school, I will tear it up!" The simple fact that he actually followed through makes him the man. I don't know what Bryn Mawr even is. But from the sound of it, I wouldn't wear a damn t-shirt saying that, so you can forget about me going to the school. ****I wrote all that before I saw this picture of him.***
My bad. The only way he was going to get chicks was to pull this stunt. Let's be honest, his former school "wasn't liberal enough for him". If college isn't liberal enough for you, I suggest you move to China. Just sayin. I don't buy it. I think he is banking on these girls coming back to the dorms on a Thursday night after partying it up and just needed to be with a guy. Even if he is the "Ginger Jesus", it's all about right place, right time. So good for him for being proactive, but what's he going to do when he graduates? Work in a planned parenthood clinic? Maybe be a janitor for a convent? I don't know. He better live it up now.
