Woman pulled out to sea during marriage proposal...

NESKOWIN, Ore. — A romantic marriage proposal on the Oregon coast turned deadly for the bride-to-be when a wave swept her out to sea. Scott Napper had taken 22-year-old Leafil Alforque to Proposal Rock near Neskowin Beach to pop the question at a place that got its name from couples ready to marry. Napper and Alforque had been dating since they met on the Internet in 2005. Napper said the tide had receded around Proposal Rock on Saturday when the couple began to walk to it. He planned to propose and give her the ring he carried in his pocket. About 10 feet from the rock, a wave about 3 feet high suddenly came toward them. "I turned into it to keep from getting pulled under it," Napper said. By the time he turned to find Alforque, only 4-foot-11 and 93 pounds, she had been caught by the receding waters. "She was about 30 feet away, getting swept away," Napper said. The 45-year-old Silverton man tore off his jacket to get rid of any extra weight, and when he looked up again she was gone.

Let's get the good stuff out of the way. He was 45. She was 22. She was from the Philippines. (Cut that part of the story out, it was just too damn long.) They met on the internet. Yeah. I don't buy it. I understand that people fall in love from all parts of the world due to things like eharmony, match.com, and the famous Jdate for my Jewish brothers and sisters. But come on. Sure, the Philippines aren't Thailand. But I think Thailand is close by and that's why I'm skeptical. Thailand buys and sells people more then the slave trade did a few hundred years back. Between that, the age difference and the fact he's from Oregon, it just doesn't add up. They have been dating since 2005? Wasn't she like 19 then, and he was 42? Look man. I know you think you're living the dream. Getting a girl 20 years your junior. It doesn't count if you meet her on the internet and have to pay for her. That's like doping in the world of marriage.
Anyone else a little concerned with this "3 foot wave"? When I was just 2 feet tall I could handle a 3 foot wave. But she is 4'11 and 93 pounds, so I believe this guy. About no foul play, not about that story on how they met. Check the bank records, he's missing at least 20 grand.
