Kids get run over at Parade. No more parades damn it!

KLTV: According to one of the injured boys and his mother, Toby and Nancy Melton, those injured came from Cub Scout Troop 912, and included the Troop leader and a parent. We spoke with eleven year old Toby and his mom just after he was released from Mother Frances of Tyler for a knee injury sustained in the accident. Toby says the kids were waiting in line to walk in the parade when they were hit, and that the boys involved were from different school districts.

Nancy Melton described the aftermath as chaotic as parents rushed to find their children in the crowd. Those on the scene also described a red Chevrolet truck that went around a barracade and barrelled into the Scouts.

Here is why I say the only time you should have a parade is when your team wins a title. I understand this means that some areas (like Atlanta) will never have a parade. For these unfortunate parts of the country I will amend the rule to include college and even high school teams. Seriously. We have gotten out of control with these parades. We have parades for everything. Thanksgiving, St. Patricks day. Veterans Day. Boxer Day. The Million Man March. When does it end? I don't consider any of these days special because we're having parades every two weeks. The only non sport related parade I enjoy is the Halloween parade. The reason is pretty obvious. I love the costumes. Funny, sexy, clever, whatever. I love them all. If you can hit all three of those at once, I'll marry you.
