Woman detained for driving in Iran. Duh
CAIRO, Egypt — An American university student in Iran to visit family and research women's rights has been arrested and held in prison for more than a week, rights group Amnesty International said. Esha Momeni, a student at California State University, Northridge, was driving on a highway in Tehran when she was stopped by authorities who said they were traffic police, the London-based Amnesty said.
Obviously this is nothing to joke about. We hope this girl is returned with all her fingers and toes. But come on. Didn't your parents teach you, if you play with fire you will get burned? You are going to a country and driving a car where they don't even let women ride bikes. We appreciate your guts, but your stupidity got you in trouble. Do people think Iran's a joke? I feel like America has this "Yeah, it's in the law books, but they can't be serious" attitude. There are a few things I have learned. Don't go to Ireland and say you're a big "drinker". Don't go to Greece and say "The Turks aren't all THAT bad". Never go to Australia and say "My drunken pub songs are better then yours." And never go to Iran and fight for womens rights without military support. It's just plain silly.
