Same Sex High Schools?
(CNN) -- Public school officials in Chicago, Illinois, are recommending approval of a "gay-friendly" high school because harassment and violence are causing gay students to skip class and drop out at alarming rates."It is not going to be a 'gay high school,' but yes, in a way, it is meant to target kids who feel they have been victims of bullying for their sexual orientation or perceived orientation," Edelman said.
Where to start. Do I care? Not really. What if you are just experimenting for a few months. Can you transfer in that school, then transfer out? Will health class still include guy on girl sex education? Oh, and is there a school for fat kids too? What about nerdy kids that get made fun of? Do they get a school?
The idiots that proposed this know nothing about education. First off, isolation is the worst thing you can do for these kids. If they are in fact gay, and not putting on a ruse because they hate their H.S., by putting them in an environment where they are only surrounded by accepting, gay people, you think that's helpful? Unless every one of them is going to work in the fashion world (for the men) or the physical education world (for the ladies) you aren't doing them any favors. They need to learn how to deal with jerk offs that don't like them.
Teachers propose this idea because they don't want any problems on their hands. You want to protect the kids? Do your damn job. Make sure they don't get harassed and beat up in the hallways. Oh, and I wasn't kidding about the fat kids and nerdy kids comparison. Why don't they get their own school too? They have the same things happen to them? Maybe if I was a nerdy fat kid I would just claim to be gay? That sucks.
