Facebook: Not a defense

CNET.com- Last week, Mr. McCarraher defended a man called Anthony Francis in Reading, England. Mr Francis was this year stopped on another matter and then subsequently charged with raping a 19-year-old woman in 2001 after police managed to match his DNA sample with that of her attacker.
Mr. McCarraher defended his client by revealing his ingenious trump card- the victim's Facebook page.
On that page was a picture of her at a fancy dress party. She was smiling.
Here are some of the lawyer's touching words in describing the victim: "What we have is a person who has post traumatic stress but is quite capable of going out and having a good time at a fancy dress party."

The writer goes on to slam the hell out of this lawyer. To preface this post let me say this. I hate predator like crimes. From rape to child molestation, hell even a bully in the office. To me, they are the worst type of crimes. But forget that element of the article for a second. Let's talk about the defense. "She is happy in her facebook picture." I have been saying for decades now that these sites are dangerous. First, it started with everyone knowing your business. Then, employers would look at your pages to see what you were all about. Next, if you were a college athlete, I hope there are no pictures of you drinking on facebook, you can lose your scholarship. Now, it can be used against you in the court of law. Not for a threat you posted on someones wall, but because you looked happy in a picture. WTF? Just be aware, facebook is not the place for your dirty laundry. Or any laundry for that matter. Keep that crap to yourself. Oh yeah, and this status thing? Unless you're trying to be shameless and plug a C level blog, no one cares. I don't need to know you're eating Chinese, while watching reruns of Sex and the City on TBS. Very Funny. What's worse then that? Political banter on the status. That's why I don't like to get all serious on here. McCain Milf 2008? Not serious and funny. Not TBS funny, but funny. I don't need to hear about who you are voting for and who you hate. Chances are you are an idiot anyway and no one would ever take your advice.
The moral of the story is be careful. Don't post your life on these things. Plug JimmyFenimore.com, maybe stalk hot co-eds pictures, but keep it as watered down as possible. Especially if you are over the age of 16. And if you're over the age of 16, I hope your not stalking some 16 year olds pictures. Not cool.
